Sailor Chibi Moon Inspired Engagement Ring And Anime Expo Zelda Proposal

Rose Gold Chibi Moon Ring by Takayas Custom Jewelry

When Virgilio approached us to create a custom engagement ring for his girlfriend Lauren, he had a very unique design in mind. They both shared a love of anime, and he wanted to create a ring in the style of Lauren's favorite character Chibi Moon, the tiniest of the Sailor Scouts.

Crafted out of 14k rose gold with a pink tourmaline center stone and two accent rubies, this Chibi Moon ring incorporates elements of Chibiusa, Sailor Moon's future daughter. It was a little challenging capturing Chibi Moon's essence in a ring because some of her character elements could potentially look like costume jewelry if adapted too literally. So in order to maintain the elegance of an engagement ring, Takayas chose to subtly incorporate Chibiusa's signature hair bun clips and barrettes on each side of the shank.

He also integrated her tiara in the gallery of the ring cradling the center stone. To make the iconic tiara stand out, he cast the crescent moon separately in 18K yellow gold and soldered it to the ring's setting.

It was very important that the piece was finished by June, because Virgilio had a very special proposal in mind. At Anime Expo 2015, he proposed to her in their Link and Zelda cosplays among all their friends and loved ones!

Throughout the designing process, Virgilio was great, and most importantly, every step of the way he was mindful of Lauren's tastes when thoughtfully suggesting ways to integrate aspects of her favorite character. After the proposal, they stopped by the studio, and we finally got to meet Lauren, who was just as sweet and considerate as Virgilio.

"The Ring was inspired by Chibi Moon because it has been her favorite character for the longest time. We are both big anime fans and I decided to propose to her at one of our favorite events, Anime Expo in Los Angeles this year. I chose that venue and planed it around our cosplay because the timing was unexpected and also, as geeky as it may sound, I asked her out to be my girlfriend with a Zelda theme necklace years back and thought it tied in pretty well. You'd think I would settle for a Zelda themed ring, but the Chibi Moon design is much more her taste so I went with that. I want to give a big thanks to Takayas for making this a very memorable time in our lives and for working hard with me through out the whole process. I couldn't have asked for a better experience with the making of the ring since day one. Thanks again!!"
