If you've been following our blog for a little while now, you may remember the adorable Cat-Turtle Engagement Ring Takayas created last year for our client Hieu to propose to his girlfriend Brittany. Well, once she'd said "Yes!", the happy couple asked Takayas to create their unique wedding bands too!
Brittany wanted a wedding ring that would compliment her engagement ring, and Hieu requested a cat and turtle kissing to be the focus of his wide wedding band design.
For her ring, Brittany requested baroque-inspired patterns on the sides and gemstones set along the top (outer edge) of the ring. She also wanted to make sure the ring was not "flat", but rather had a feeling of motion or flow. Takayas took all of her requests into account and used pink sapphires and diamonds to compliment her engagement ring.

Hieu's 7mm wide ring provided a good sized canvas for Takayas to create a raised image of a cat and turtle kissing.

Takayas initially played around with the idea of using Brittany's baroque pattern on Hieu's ring but, it distracted from the intended focal point of the ring and, since he would already be matching her engagement ring with the cat-turtle element, he wanted to make sure Hieu's wedding band had some unique elements of its own. So, instead, Takayas decided to surround the adorable animals with organic shapes which suggest the cat is on the shore leaning down to kiss the turtle who is emerging from the water.

We were curious what inspired Hieu and Brittany to incorporate the cat and turtle elements in their special rings, and the answer was pretty straightforward: Brittany really likes cats and Hieu really likes turtles. :-) They like cats and turtles so much that they included their favorite animals in their wedding decorations as well!
